How it works
- Foods. 5,149 generic foods from USDA’s FNDDS 2021–2023: the 3,432 that Calorie Tape’s nutrient lists rank, and 1,717 mixed dishes such as pizza, burritos and soups, whose values assume a standard recipe. Baby foods, meal replacements and recipe ingredients are left out.
- Serving. One of FNDDS’s own portions, or half its cup, the one nearest the amount FNDDS assumes when someone doesn’t say how much they ate. When a food has none, the comparison is per 100 g and says so.
- Checks. A check marks whichever food has more of a nutrient. More isn’t better or worse, just more. A nutrient a food doesn’t report shows “—” and gets no check; amounts that round to the same number get none either.
- Privacy. The page downloads a 240 KB food list, plus 137 KB of mixed dishes when you start searching, then searches and compares on your device. Nothing you type is sent anywhere, and there’s no tracking.
Every one of these nutrients, in your log
Calorie Tape logs these same USDA foods with all 65 nutrients, offline, and shows which foods your day’s potassium, fiber or iron came from. No account, and your log stays on your iPhone.
