A plan, or detail
Lose It! starts from your goal: it works out a daily calorie budget and a schedule, tracks your weigh-ins, and keeps you going with friends, groups and logging streaks. Premium adds nutrient, water and sleep targets.
Cronometer starts from what’s in your food: up to 95 nutrients and compounds from lab-analyzed sources, with targets you set. Its free plan includes the barcode scanner, recipes, and charts over the last seven days.
Price and ads
Lose It! Premium is $79.99 a year, with a one-time Lifetime upgrade at $299.99; Lose It! says its in-app prices vary with promotions. Cronometer Gold is $10.99 a month or $59.99 a year.
Both free plans have ads. Lose It! shows full-screen ads between screens and banner ads in the food log, which a one-time Eliminate Ads purchase removes. Cronometer shows ads in the app and on its website until you pay for Gold.

A third option: Calorie Tape
Calorie Tape, which we make, scans barcodes for free, shows every nutrient a food reports and needs no account; it works offline and has no ads. It doesn’t plan weight loss or track weight, and it tracks fewer nutrients per food than Cronometer.
