Goals and plans
Both start from your weight and goal. MyFitnessPal estimates your calorie needs with a BMR calculator and adds or subtracts calories for the weight change you choose. Lose It! works out a daily calorie budget and a schedule to reach your goal, and tracks your weigh-ins against it.
Both have communities. Lose It! leans on friends, groups and logging streaks; MyFitnessPal adds an AI coach and, with Premium Plus, meal plans and grocery lists.
Price and ads
Premium costs $79.99 a year in both. MyFitnessPal also sells it monthly, at $19.99. Lose It! sells a one-time Lifetime upgrade at $299.99, and says its in-app prices vary with promotions.
Both free plans have ads. MyFitnessPal shows banner ads and sponsored posts until you pay for Premium. Lose It! shows full-screen ads between screens and banner ads in the food log, and a one-time Eliminate Ads purchase removes those without a subscription.
Privacy
Both keep your diary in an account and use targeted or interest-based advertising, per their privacy policies. Their App Privacy labels list identifiers and usage data (MyFitnessPal) and contact info, identifiers and usage data (Lose It!) as data that may be used to track you.

A third option: Calorie Tape
Both keep barcode scanning in Premium. Calorie Tape, which we make, scans for free, needs no account, works offline and has no ads, and it shows every nutrient a food reports. It doesn’t plan weight loss or track your weight, and it has no recipes or restaurant dishes.
